St. Denis National Wildlife Area - 2020 - 2024
St. Denis National Wildlife Area (SDNWA) was established in 1967 to serve as a research area to study ecology, biogeochemistry, biodiversity, and the impact of agricultural land on wetlands. Since then many scientists studied its wetlands and published their research and stories!
I had the privilege to work on this amazing beautiful wetland in Treaty 6!
SDNWA is located in Treaty 6 lands. These are the territories of the nêhiyawak (Cree), Anihšināpēk (Saulteaux), Dene, Dakota, Nakoda, Lakota, and the homeland of the Métis. We approach our work with respect for the Treaties, acknowledging the mistakes of the past and committing to moving forward in partnership with Indigenous communities in the spirit of truth, reconciliation, and collaboration.
